Established in 1819 • County Seat: Connersville
Named after the French military officer Marquis de la Fayette, Fayette County has played a significant role in Indiana's development since 1819. The county seat, Connersville, is the largest city and serves as the hub of local activity.
While we are centrally located to three major metropolitan areas (Dayton, Indianapolis and Cincinnati), it is our location on the banks of the Whitewater River which affords us excellent fishing, canoeing, rafting, as well as camping and many other outdoor activities.
Throughout its history, Fayette County has been a gateway for settlement in the Northwest Territory and later became an automotive manufacturing center in the early 20th century. Today, the county embraces its heritage while offering modern amenities and scenic attractions.
