Discussed that currently, there were only 1 intentions per the following: Secretary, Treasurer, Vice chair, and Chair. If only 1 person per position is running, the meeting will be an acclimation instead of a vote. - Precinct Committee Member vacancies: 1 Chair (male), 8 Vice chairs (6 male, 1 female). PCs cannot change until after the reorganization vote, and if appointed immediately after, will be able to vote as early as April.
7. Announcements
- Donna Schroeder announced that 2026 is the 250th anniversary of the US birthday, and the State DAR/SAR asked the county historian to take responsibility for each county. Donna is asking anybody interested in being on a committee for Historical Connersville Indiana (HCI) to contact her. Meetings would be monthly, with emails to fill in planning time. They are trying to get an Armed Forces Day parade and have discussed planning family history/genealogy workshops and working with WVRR for something to bring in the military aspect.
8. Public Comment/Open Discussion
- Much discussion centered around the GOP and Trump’s recent executive orders. Ed Herrell urged members to make calls to representatives. Guests present wanted to know what the DNC is doing in response to the government takeover etc. It was pointed out that a failure of the DNC is that it is hard to get Democrats to show up, or to vote. Further emphasis needs to be put on building a presence. Solutions discussed included:
- Using Resistbot app to send emails to representatives (Rick will put info/tutorial on the website)
- Increasing visibility and activity in the community through mutual aide, publicity, and social media
- Adding the website and/or a QR code to the note on the front door with phone number
- Adding a list to the front door/window with contact information for our representatives
- Zoom meetings will begin in March
